He was a councillor before that, winning election in 2004, and worked as an accountant before taking up a career in politics. He lives in Patrickswell and is married to Eimear with two children Conor and Kealon.

A Politics and Philosophy student at University College Cork, he also supports lowering the legal voting to 16. Among his key issues is securing investment to support rural business in Limerick and to work with the local council to develop the county's potential as a tourism hub.

Ex-Labour Senator James Heffernan is standing for the Social Democrats after he lost the party whip over not voting for budget cuts. Heffernan returned from Australia to contest the 2007 General Election for the Limerick West Constituency and has been involved in Politics since and is a former member of Limerick County Council. Heffernan has been an adcovate for social justice, the environment, support for communities and tackling organised crime.

Patrick O’Donovan is one of the two sitting TDs in the three seat Limerick County constituency and will be hopeful of retaining seat following the decision by sitting TD and party Dan Neville not to run in 2016. Political life for Patrick O’Donovan began in earnest in 2004 when he was elected in the local elections. He became the youngest Fine Gael group leader and was reelected in 2009. He was elected to the Dáil in 2011. He previously worked as an industrial chemist before returning to college to train as a primary school teacher.
