Chris Andrews

Chris Andrews

Sinn Féin

A Sinn Féin TD for the last four years, Mr Andrews previously served as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Dublin South East constituency from 2007 to 2011. He lost his seat alongside many other party colleagues in 2011 and eventually resigned from the party when it was revealed he was behind a Twitter account which made negative posts about party leader Micheál Martin. Andrews has been an outspoken campaigner for Palestine for many years and has travelled to Gaza on humanitarian missions. He is related to former RTÉ presenter Ryan Tubridy and had to excuse himself from the Media Committee when the scandal engulfing the presenter and the broadcaster was being probed.

Ivana Bacik

Ivana Bacik

Labour

A Senator since 2007, Ms Bacik got elected as a TD in a landslide win for Labour in the Dublin Bay South by election in 2021 after Fine Gael’s Eoghan Murphy resigned. The barrister is known for being a high profile abortion rights campaigner since the 1980s and is a keen cyclist. The TD’s surname is Czech. Her paternal grandfather was imprisoned by the Nazis during WWII, and in 1946 he moved to Waterford with his family, including her father, then a child.

Emma Blain

Emma Blain is editor of The Church of Ireland Gazette and currently sits on Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. She is a former Sunday Independent journalist. A councillor since 2016, she comes from a political family. Hazel Chu

Hazel Chu

The Green Party

The former Dublin Lord Mayor is running to keep the seat vacated by outgoing TD and former party leader, Eamon Ryan. Ms Chu fought off competition to be the candidate in one of the Greenest constituencies in the country from competitors which included Cllr Claire Byrne, who works in the former leader’s office in Leinster House. Cllr Chu previously lost out to Cllr Byrne to be the party’s candidate in the 2021 by election. The former party chair is married to Green TD Patrick Costello. Ms Chu was the first Irish-born person of Chinese descent elected to political office on the island of Ireland and when elected mayor, was the first person of Chinese ethnicity to be mayor of a European capital.

Nick Delehanty

The candidate ran in the south east inner city unsuccessfully in this year’s local elections but will be hoping for a better result in his first bid for the Dáil. His ‘Make Crime Illegal’ slogan took social media by storm during his local election campaign after it was spotted on his posters. He regularly posts threads about current controversies, such as the €300k bike shed, to his 12,000 followers. The UCD educated politician worked previously as a solicitor.

Ms Doyle is a candidate as part of the National Alliance, which is an electoral alliance of parties for the general election. It consists of the National Party, Ireland First and The Irish People, as well as some independent candidates. Originally from Ranelagh, the barrister was first elected to the Pembroke local electoral area in 2019. He is also a board member of the National Maternity Hospital.
