Jim Barrett from Barna intends to contest a seat in the Limerick County constituency, after putting himself forward to represent Newcastle West in the local elections in June. With previous experience at Irish Rail, Mr Barrett is also a small farmer and runs Pedal Pursuits bicycle hire. He has been involved in promoting tourism and community development in west Limerick, while also serving as the chairman of West Limerick Tourism. He has also worked to preserve and develop the old Limerick to Kerry rail line as a recreational amenity for the community.

Along with Cllr Bridie Collins, Deputy Niall Collins was selected as a Fianna Fáil candidate for Limerick County at the party’s selection convention on August 29. Niall Collins has been Minister of State for Skills and Further Education since 2020 and is also Fianna Fail Spokesperson for Justice and Equality. Living in Patrickswell, Niall was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2007 and again in 2011. Prior to entering Dáil Éireann Niall was elected to Limerick County Council in 2004.

Originally from Donegal and now living in County Limerick, Bridie represents the Adare/Rathkeale Municipal District. She was first elected to Limerick City and County Council in 2019 after years of community work. She became chair of Adare Tidy Towns a number of years ago.

Along with Cllr Noreen Stokes, Deputy Patrick O’Donovan was selected to contest the general election as a Fine Gael candidate at the party selection convention on September 22. Patrick O’Donovan is Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science having been appointed in April 2024. He previously served as Minister of State with responsibility for Office of Public Works and the Gaeltacht until April 2024 and Minister of State at the Department of Finance and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform with special responsibility for Public Procurement, Open Government and Government, from June 2017 until June 2020. He was first elected to Limerick County Council in June 2004 at the age of 27.

Announced as a candidate on October 20, Donna O’Loughlin will be campaigning for “better HSE services for special needs children like my son”, and “will also be campaigning for less waiting times for hospital appointments for children with scoliosis”. Donna also aims to campaign for “strictly controlled immigration” and will “seek to lower employer PRSI for small Irish firms employing less than 20 Irish citizens to encourage more jobs for Irish workers."

On October 17, it was announced that Lorraine O’Sullivan would be contesting the Limerick County constituency, making her the 22nd candidate running with the National Alliance. According to her manifesto, Lorraine wants to see a “reduction in health waiting lists for children”, “more prisons to address overcrowding”, “increased funding for mental health services for children”, “ban property tax”, and “uphold the right to express diverse opinions”.
