Dara Calleary TD, from Ballina, Co Mayo is the Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital Transformation and Company Regulation. Mr Calleary has been a TD for Mayo since first being elected at the 2007 General Election and is all but guaranteed to retain his seat. He has previously served as minister of state in a number of other departments and was also Government chief whip. Mr Calleary resigned as Minister of Agriculture in 2020 on the back of the 'golf-gate' saga during the pandemic.

A barrister by profession and holds a masters degree in law from UCD and professional barrister-at-law qualification from the Kings Inns.

Known as highly effective and hugely popular locally in North Mayo Ms Conway Walsh was until recent weeks deemed likely to retain her seat. However, the dip in Sinn Fein’s fortunes nationally has led to panic in her camp and a decision was taken to add a running mate the only elected Sinn Fein Councillor in Mayo, Gerry Murray a huge vote getter. Ms Conway-Walsh is a member of Sinn Féin’s Ard Comhairle.

Castlebar-based schoolteacher Joe Daly is a well-known social justice campaigner running for People Before Profit. The Castlebar secondary school teacher has stood in the two previous local elections and the 2020 general election. Mr Daly is a long-time People Before Profit member and ASTI union representative and has campaigned on various issues. He received 721 first preference votes in the 2020 general election before being eliminated on the third count.

He was appointed to this role in April this year. He came to prominence politically during the grilling of executives at the Public Accounts Committee in relation to the RTÉ payment scandal. Prior to entering politics, he was a two-time All Star winning footballer who captained the senior Mayo team.

His performance in the local elections saw him elected on the first count and underscores his popularity locally in Ballina. Mr Duffy is well regarded in the Council and has built a reputation as hard working and has a strong likability.

The CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice is hotly tipped to take a seat. A former Mayo Person of the Year, Martina Jennings was the pick of Taoiseach Simon Harris. The fly in the ointment for Jennings is she will be competing against Patsy O’Brien for a seat and the two live close to each other. Who between O'Brien and Jennings is eliminated first will elect the other in transfers, sources say.

The Westport woman narrowly missed out on a seat in the local elections, and is being backed locally by outgoing TD, Michael Ring. Ms Keogh has dedicated her career to working with children with behavioural issues and runs a successful consultancy business. A graduate of Applied Behaviour Analysis from Trinity College Dublin, she has over fourteen years of experience in the area of behaviour support. Her expertise is mainly in the field of Autism and other additional needs and she specialises in early intervention.

He lost out to another Independent for the last seat in the local elections in June in the Castlebar Municipal District. A secondary school teacher from Knock, Co Mayo, cllr Lawless, became the first and only Aontú member ever elected to Mayo County Council in June. This is his second run at a general election. Mr Lawless previously stood in the 2020, where he received 2,574 first-preference votes and was eliminated after the fourth count. If elected, he would be the first Aontú representative from Mayo ever to serve as TD.

Chris Maxwell is a well-known sheep and cattle farmer and agri contractor. The Westport man recently topped the poll is the local elections and is viewed as being strong on rural issues particularly those facing farmers. While the farming vote in Mayo is strong it remains to be seen if it will carry results outside the main parties.

He is a retired publican from Charlestown, Co Mayo who enjoys enormous goodwill in his local area that spans typical political party lines. His decision to run is viewed as a tactical one by Sinn Fein in the hope it will push his running mate Rose Conway Walsh over the line.

Raised on a small farm in Erris. O’Conaill went on to become managing director of an insurance brokerage in Dublin – Capital Growth Consultants (Dublin) LTD. When he moved back to Mayo, he set up The Boxty Factory in Belmullet – Táirgí Bia Iorrais Teoranta. He intends to campaign on a the issue of Rural Regeneration and fight for increased incentives for small farmers in disadvantaged areas who produce food.

Former Fine Gael Councillor, now Independent Patsy O’Brien topped the poll in the recent local elections and is hotly predicted to do with some sources predicting he could take the final seat. Mr O'Brien, from Robeen, has strong connections with the IFA and is considered strong on farming and rural issues.
